India

1992 and 1994

This page contains a selection of photos from our first two journeys in India, both in the early 90s when the subcontinent was already part of the backpacking trail, offering good communications, easy-to-organize transport, and a plethora of cheap restaurants and guest houses where people could meet fellow travellers. Moving around the country was not a real, life-endangering adventure, though the crowds, dirt, and antiquated transport system certainly required a good amount of resilience. Here the real challenges were intellectual, cultural and historical, forcing me to reevaluate my world-view.

I lived many years in India since then, and continue to return in order  to explore new areas and meet old friends. It is a country that never ceases to amaze me, where I know there will always be something new for me to learn.
